MANY TOOLS MAKE LIGHT WORK
Tuesday, 31 May 2005

Leading power tool manufacturer STIHL has introduced a unique seven-in-one ground maintenance solution called the MultiSystem MM 55 for the serious gardener. Consisting of a drive unit and seven optional, interchangeable Multitools, the STIHL MultiSystem MM 55 has been designed for a range of tasks from lawn care and tilling to the clearing of paths and patios. It is versatile, robust, easy to operate and competitively priced, says STIHL SA.

The MM 55 has a powerful two-stroke engine engineered for reliable starting, trouble-free running and a long life. The engine has an impact-resistant plastic housing and the spark plug has been integrated into the housing for further protection. The drive unit is mounted on a frame that folds down easily for carrying, transport by car or storage, even when fitted with an attachment. In addition, controls are ergonomically positioned for ease of operation.

The MultiTools, which can be fitted and removed easily without the use of additional tools, are:

  • An aerator, which perforates the surface of grass evenly without damaging lawn, allowing water and nutrients to enter and letting air in.
  • A de-thatcher, which eradicates moss and matted grass.
  • An edger, which precision-trims lawn edges along paths and driveways and around shrubs and flowerbeds
  • Pick tines, to break up clumpy soil and distribute sandy soil evenly without damaging root systems. Good soil cultivation creates the ideal conditions for plant growth and keeps down weeds.
  • Bolo tines, to break up heavy soil. This is the ideal tool for preparing soil for planting, marking out drills or loosening soil between free-standing plants.
  • A bristle brush for clearing paths and patios including unevenly paved areas. It can be used for both dry and wet cleaning
  • A powered sweep, to clear dirt, sand and gravel from paved areas and paths and sweep up leaves on lawns.
