Any failure due to defect in material or workmanship occurring during the applicable warranty period, subject to the exclusions and limitations below.
A product shall be covered by warranty if the defect arose:
2.1 Petrol and Electric Product Warranty.
2.1.l 12 months from the date of purchase, where the product is a consumer product and where the product is used for domestic purposes.
2.1.2 6 months from the date of purchase, where the product is designed for semi-professional or professional users and is used in these respective applications.
2.1.3 3 months from the date of purchase, where the product is being offered for hire purposes.
2.1.4 2 years from the date of purchase in respect of ignition modules purchased after l January 2002; and
2.1.5 A lifetime warranty in respect of ignition modules purchased before l January 2002.
2.2 Battery Product Warranty
2.2.l 24 months from the date of purchase, where the product is a consumer product and where the product is used for domestic purposes.
2.2.2 12 months from the date of purchase, where the product is designed for semi-professional or professional users and is used in these respective applications
2.2.3 6 months from the date of purchase, where the product is a professional product and is used in a professional application within a hire fleet.
2.2.4 6 months from the date of purchase, where the product is a consumer product and is used in a domestic application within a hire fleet.
2.2.5 All batteries will carry a 24-month warranty, this will be subject to clause
4.1 - normal wear and tear. If the battery has exceeded the charge cycles or fair usage a warranty will not be considered. All batteries submitted for warranty must have diagnostic data included with proof of purchase, showing the date of acquisition of the STIHL product and the Dealer name.
The original purchaser, other than resale.
The warranty will be excluded in the following circumstances, and does not cover:
4.1 normal wear and tear;
4.2 any failure arising from the abnormal or improper use of the STIHL product;
4.3 any failure caused by the dealer, customer, operator, or anyone they have authorised to operate the STIHL product;
4.4 any failure that would not have occurred if the dealer or customer had taken reasonable steps to prevent the failure from occurring;
4.5 any failure that occurs for reason/s that were specifically brought to the dealers' attention (in a written notice or otherwise);
4.6 any defect that ought reasonably to have been revealed by an examination of the STIHL product;
4.7 where non-genuine STIHL or VIKING replacement parts or accessories have been used;
4.8 any failure arising from a cause independent of human control that occurred after the STIHL product left the control of STIHL.
4.9 any failure arising from accident, abuse, act of God, fire, sabotage, vandalism, contaminated fluids or neglect;
4.10 failure to operate, store and/ or maintain the STIHL product in accordance with instructions provided in the Instruction tv1anual supplied with the STIHL product;
4.11 failure to carry out recommended care and maintenance as set out in the instruction manual, including any parts or services required for the normal and regular maintenance of the STIHL product e.g. lubricants, engine tune-ups etc;
4.12 failure to apply normal adjustments which are explained in the Instruction tv1anual supplied with the STIHL product;
4.13 repairs made necessary due to the STIHL product coming into contact with or being exposed to dirt, abrasives, moisture, rust, corrosion, varnish or other similar conditions;
4.14 any failure arising from the use of incorrect fuel or fuel and oil mix or incorrect chain and bar oil for the oil pump, or incorrect lubricating oil in a four-stroke engine;
4.15 any damage to, or seizure of, the STIHL product due to carburettor settings that differ from those set out in the Instruction tv1anual supplied with the STIHL product;
4.16 any failure arising from any unauthorised assembly, repair or modification of the STIHL product by any person;
4.17 any failure arising from an act, default or omission of, or any representation made by, a person other than STIHL or any employee or agent of STIHL; or
4.18 any failure of the STIHL product which has been used in an application not appropriate to the product, or with the express consent of a STIHL technical employee.
4.19 Consumable items such as spark plugs, sprockets, filters, starter cords, etc are not covered by a warranty.
5.1 To maintain the machine correctly as per Owner/Operator manual.
5.2 To provide proof of purchase to enable the authorized dealer to assess the item and check the warranty period.
6.1 Ensure that the machine is supplied with the correct Owner/Operator tv1anual, tools and ensure that the customer is confident in the use of the product.
6.2 Ensure that the product registration is done within 30 days of original purchase date to validate this warranty.
7.1 To ensure that any defective product or component is supplied at no cost to the consumer.
7.2 Ensure that the work is carried out by the authorized dealer at his normal workflow and to the highest standard.
7.3 Should the consumer not receive satisfactory results from the authorized dealer then he may contact ANDREAS STIHL (PTY) Ltd. directly.
